About Khadra & Isra Daycare
Khadra & Isra Daycare is an independent nursery in Birmingham, established in 2013 and operating from a renovated heritage building. Open Monday to Friday, it cares for children across three age-grouped rooms from a few months old, and helps families navigate Birmingham City Council and national funding so quality childcare stays within reach.
Objectives
- Replace a brochure site with one parents actually use: rooms, funding, transport and how to register.
- Turn every registration into a tracked enquiry, not an email the team re-keys.
- Give staff one admin to run admissions, recruitment and content without a developer.
- Keep the nursery in control of its own dates, stages and published pages.
The Challenge
Most nursery websites stop at a phone number: a parent reads a few pages and is told to call. Khadra & Isra wanted the opposite, a site that carries the actual work. A registration had to become something the team could act on and track, not a form that lands in an inbox and gets lost, and the people running the nursery, not a developer, had to stay in control of dates, stages, vacancies and content.
The Approach
The obvious build is a contact form that emails the office. The decision here was to treat a registration as the start of a pipeline, not the end of a page: every enquiry becomes a record with a stage, dropped onto a board the team reorders as a child moves from first contact to enrolled. That one choice, an admissions CRM rather than a mailbox, is what separates this from a brochure with a form bolted on, and it set the shape for careers and content too.
The Solution
The public site gives parents the pages they need, rooms by age group, funding and financial support, transport and how to register, with a date-aware registration form. Behind it, a private admin turns those registrations into an admissions pipeline the nursery runs itself, alongside the same team managing vacancies, job applications and their own blog.
Built on React and Supabase: a fast public site over a Postgres database the nursery owns and manages through a private admin. A registration reads the nursery's own calendar of blocked-out dates, then writes an application onto a configurable pipeline whose stages are defined by staff rather than hard-coded, and each enquiry is a card carrying the child's details that moves between stages on a drag-and-drop board. The same admin runs job vacancies and their applications, plus a rich-text editor for the nursery's blog, so one login covers admissions, hiring and content.

The public site carries the decisions a parent needs to make: three rooms grouped by age, funding and financial support explained against Birmingham City Council and national schemes, transport, and a clear way to register. It's content the nursery can change itself, not a fixed leaflet.

Registrations become an admissions board
A registration doesn't land in an inbox. It creates an enquiry, carrying the child's details, days wanted and preferred start, that appears as a card at the first stage of an admissions pipeline. Staff drag it from first contact toward enrolled, and the board shows exactly where every family is. The stages are the nursery's own, not fixed by the developer.

A pipeline is only as honest as the people who keep it moving: a card left in the wrong column is worse than no board at all. The system makes the state visible and easy to change, but it still asks the team to work the board, in exchange for never losing an enquiry to a missed email.
Careers run like admissions
The nursery posts its own vacancies and takes applications through the site, CV and course details included for placement routes, and those applications feed the same kind of tracked list the admissions board uses. Recruitment is run from the same admin, by the same people, with no second tool.

Khadra & Isra now runs its own front door. A parent registers on the site and the enquiry lands, stage-stamped, on a board the team works through, vacancies and applications run on the same rails, and the pages and posts are the nursery's to change. It's a working system in place of a leaflet, owned end to end by the people who run the nursery.
